Theme of the 2025 Essay

“The Role of Medical Laboratory Scientists in Strengthening Nigeria’s Public Health System”
This year’s theme challenges students to explore the evolving responsibilities of medical laboratory scientists in disease surveillance, diagnostics, outbreak response, and health policy development. Essays should reflect originality, depth of analysis, and relevance to Nigeria’s healthcare realities.
Eligibility Criteria
To participate, applicants must:
- Be a registered medical laboratory science student in any accredited Nigerian university or college of health sciences
- Be an active member of a recognized NIMELSSA chapter
- Submit an essay that adheres strictly to the competition guidelines
Entries from preclinical and clinical students are welcome, and each institution may submit multiple entries.

- Maximum word count: 1,500 words
- Font: Times New Roman, size 12, double-spaced
- Referencing style: APA 7
- Submission format: PDF, with the title page including the student’s full name, institution, level, and contact details
- Essays must be original and free from plagiarism
